“You can never have a true freedom without financial freedom”

Rich Dad, Robert Kiyosaki, wrote in his book “Cashflow Quartdrant” that you can never have true freedom without financial freedom. This quote is really true to me both in term of financial decision or economic decision.

Financial freedom, i try to give definition by myself, refer to the ability to make any decision without any interfere or influence of finance. Meaning that you can make your decision independently and money has zero influence on you. For example, you want to buy a Lexus 2019, as long as you have money in your bank account, you can buy it. However, if you are currently broke, or has obligation to pay loan on a monthly basis, it is hard for you to decide to buy anything because the first you need to do is paying loan unless you have secured source revenue come in your pocket monthly.

With the real case of my neighbor, he has only one source of revenue, his salary. currently, he has to pay loans both formal and informal, about 70% of his salary each month. He is in the rat race. He feel sometimes tired as he doesn’t have much money left. Some months, he even borrowed to pay his installment. This is the real life example of non-financial freedom.

Another case is about my close friends, who run a real estate business. he has half-a million loan in the bank, but he can manage to buy anything he wants.Every month, he has a revenue stream from his rent condo, which able to cover all his installment. His commission fee on the house brokerage can cover his daily expenses. He even has money to buy great values assets some month and then sale for net worth. This shows that he has financial freedom. He doesn’t stay in the rat race any more.

How to have financial freedom? according Robert, it needs financial education, which is rarely or never taught in school.

You Can DO it!

Do you think this statement is true or false to you? it is not the matter either your answer “Yes” or “No” because it will tell what types of person you are.

To me, the statement “every time you think you can’t do something, someone else thinks they can.” is really true. the main thing we should focus is “WHY” or “WHAT” makes someone else THINK they CAN. they can be knowledge and experience that make the different between the two persons above.

It is the real example of myself. A few years ago, i was thinking of developing directory app, which allows the companies, vendors, agencies and individual business owners lists their business and products, even free ads, for free of charge. I think that once i build the total users base, i can set the price for digital marketing in the app. However, at that time, i believed it is difficult to persuade those professional to list their products in my products and this business idea still just the dream till now. However, now there are several apps already in the google store or play store having similar function. Now, i regret of not doing it, but i keep it as a lesson-learnt for the future.

One thing may be useful is using the right question to ask ourselves: “HOW can I do it?” this magic question will open your mind to thinking further to read all your dream.

Exercise your Conscious Regularly

This morning, along the way from home to work, before taking the elevator to the 9th floor office, i went to Starbuck to by a cup of coffee. Before, i was addicted with the ice-types coffee like ice latte, latte frappe..etc. Recently, I noticed that my taste changes to something hot, hot latte. Thus, walking to the counter and i order “latte” please. After waiting a while, I got my coffee, but not the hot latte. In stead, it was ice latte. I thought there was something wrong. I tried to checked the receipt and saw the “ice-latte”. At first, i felt a bit shocked, but latter, when my consciousness comes in, I realized that “my mouth betrayed my mind”–i thought i ordered hot latte, but my mouth spelled ice-latte, automatically.

What can be learnt from this? I realized that drinking ice latte has become my habit for the long time, maybe in the last 3 or 4 years. When I tried to change the taste, which may be forced by my consciousness, the subconscious, which recorded the event that every time i ordered coffee, it must be “ice-latte! ice-latte! ice-latte!….”.

So, now i changed just in my mind (conscious) and only if i use my conscious when i order, i will get hot latte. otherwise, i will always get ice latte. Why? because it is become a bit. Once you do same thing everyday for some period of time, it becomes the habit, which is recorded in your subconscious, the function in your brain to help you automatically react to any situations you have experience before, without bothering your conscious.

your subconscious is not always right. For example, at night walking on glass, you saw something is moving to your leg. At first, you may scream and/or jump and may shout “Snake!Snake!”. Then, you may try to analyze and figure out what it is. at this stage, your conscious start working. then, you know it is a robe that moving cuz of the wind. This is the reason that we should delay our judgement (in other word, ask yourself, is it {the subconscious} correct?).

Now back to my case of coffee, next time, i need to remind myself by using my conscious to order the hot coffee. By doing this for some period of time, my subconscious will be replaced the ice latte to hot latte.

Self-Discipline

self discipline

It said that 95% of the results come from the activities you do every day (habit). What do repeatedly will create habit in ourselves and automatically records in the sub-conscious mind. For example, you get up in the morning, take bath and watch TV, or read book. There are good habit and bad habit happens in every action we do every day. There is one most important formula which can help you build a ton of good habits and success in your life, called “Self-Discipline”.

According to Brian Tracy, Self-Discipline refers to the ability to do what you should do, when you should do it, whether you like it or not. We human will definitely do something we like to do; however, we may delay to do what we don’t like. Self-discipline helps to develop the grow mindset of doing what we don’t like, but important to do. For instance, we may choose to watch TV or play PUBG, in stead of cleaning the room although our room looks messy and smell bad.

How to develop self-discipline? It is really hard to thing to do, but worth try because the good habit is hard to build, but easy to live with. Start from the small thing like setting the a few goals of the day and prioritize which one you should do it. Once you determine the first thing, start doing it until you finish it no matter what it take. Second, start to say no to bad habits like when “playing game or watch TV” comes in your mind, learn to reject and say “let me finish my task first”.

Self-discipline is something you need to practice everyday because there is evil and angel on our both shoulders. If we let evil win, we will end up staying with bad habits, which not contribute to the ultimate goals.

Build Good Habits is the First Step to Success

It is said that 95% of everything you do is the result of habit. Recently, i have browsed in youtube and found a video by Brian Tracy on “The Daily Habit of Successful People”. This video was really amazing and i found out the answers to my long last question how to reach the success path and what is the first step si should start.

According to Brian, Self-discipline is the first habit that can help anyone to build other good habit. Brian defined self-discipline as the ability to make yourself do WHAT you should do, WHEN you should DO it, whether you feel LIKE it or not.” generally, when we like doing something, we will do it our best. however, if we can do something that we don’t like it, it is the proof that we have built this habit in ourselves already.

Below is the 5 habits that Brian mentioned in which the successful people do it daily:

  • Daily Goal Setting: always set the goals for the next day. Having a clear goal is like traveling to the destination we want to reach.
  • Be Result-Oriented: Focus on what is the most important task that can bring big result. You can ask yourself, what is the only one thing you have to make it if you are away from your work for a month?
  • Be People-Oriented: Remember that everything you do/achieve, you cannot do it alone. every success may need the help of people around us. Thus, think of what you can help people around so that they can solve their problem and success.
  • Stay healthy-oriented: Health is the most important asset. without good health, we cannot reach the success. Thus, stay healthy and mind your food. Do exercise regularly to keep you healthy.
  • Stay honest: Honesty is the best habit that can be the bridge to success. everyone prefer to work with honest people, right? so be honest to yourself and others.

Thanks Brian for sharing a very good tips. If you are interested in this topic, you can buy the book written by Brian called “Million Dollar Habits” or what his video via this link.

3 Main Root causes of Financial Struggle

Financial struggles

Every night before i sleep, i usually think of earning money for tomorrow’s spending. I sometimes in dilemma, don’t know how i can get the money to refill the car, pay utilities, especially paying the interest and pay off debt.

After joining the training on core empowerment, i start reviewing myself and think of the root cause bringing me into such situation. Based on my experience, there are 3 things which lead you to financial struggle:

  1. Do not plan the budget and track the expenses: it is said that if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. it is correct. if we don’t do budget, plan what should we spend on and how much, we gonna end up getting all of our money out of the pocket before the pay day. Thus, it is better to start managing your budget and track expenses as soon as possible. then, be disciplined with it. do not over-expenses.
  2. spending based on feeling: Sometimes, we may have budget plan, but the impulse of spending, especially when we know that we credit card, which we can use to buy this and that, then pay later. if you cannot make your feeling, not different from point 1, you will end up having no cash in hand and even need to pay the interest of your card. As yourself before buying, “Is that what i need or just want? do I have enough money to buy it?”
  3. Depending on one source of income: source of income is very important. Most people financially struggling, depend on just one source of income. When they wait for the pay day, they don’t even reduce their expenses or build frugal habit (mindful on what to spend). If we want to buy anything which cost more that 50% of our current income, we need to find other source of income to buy it or have a saving plan for getting it.
